Agra: A Historic City in India

Agra is situated in the Northern state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is a small historic town full of Buildings and Monuments. Agra is famous for the Taj Mahal, the symbol of India. The Taj Mahal is the most prestigious buildings in India. It is also one of the Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal may be the main reason why tourists come here, but Agra has some other attractions as well. Agra is 200 kms from Delhi, and an important part of tourist itinerary.  Agra is an important part of Indian Tourism, and has seen millions of tourists every year. Agra is a small city with good public transport. Buses, Rickshaws and Cabs are available all over the city. If you are visiting in winters, you can walk through the city. The best time to visit Agra is between October and March. The weather at this time is pleasant. Usually, most tourists visit India in this time period. The winter months are best to visit any part of India. The main attractions in Agra include Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Baby Taj, Taj Nature Walk, Mehtab Bagh, Mankameshwar Temple, Moti Masjid, Akbar’s Tomb, Jama Masjid of Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. It will take you 2 full days to explore all these places. You can also hire local taxis that take you all these places together in a package.

Agra is good for food. Though all restaurants are Indian, but there are some fast food joints at some places. Foreign Tourists are recommended to have the local Indian food. You will find a lot of street food stalls in the city. They are decent enough to grab a snack. Agra is a small city, don’t expect lavish restaurants here. Agra should be considered as a weekend destination.

Shopping is just fine. As mentioned before, Agra is a weekend getaway destination. Thus, you should not waste time in shopping. Though you can purchase souvenirs of Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Local sweets are very famous. So, if you love sweets, you can shop for them. Else, there is nothing more to shop for.

Agra is a well-connected city. Though it doesn’t have an Airport, but connectivity from Delhi is fast and convenient. Roads and Railways are developed in a way that that it takes only 3 hours to reach Agra from Delhi. The most effective way is to take an AC Bus from Delhi. Delhi is a fairly connected city with a big International Airport. It would take you just 5 hours to reach Agra from Delhi Airport  by Bus/Cab.
